Chico Mello (1957)in Curitiba, Brasilien geboren. Medizin- und Musikstudien in Curitiba. Kompositionsstudium in São Paulo bei H.J. Köllreuter und in Berlin bei Dieter Schnebel und Witold Szalonek. Wichtige Begegnungen mit lateinamerikanischen und europäischen Komponisten
in den "Cursos latinoamericanos de música contemporanea". Aufführungen,
u.a., bei den Donaueschinger Musiktagen, Inventionen-Berlin, Pro Musica Nova-
Bremen, Klang - Aktionen Neue Musik München, Festival International de
Musique Eletroacustique de Bourges- Frankreich, Festival Música Nova, São Paulo,
Bienal de Música Contemporânea, Rio de Janeiro. Leitet das Ensemble "ContempoSonoro" im Curitiba. Bumbos (1993)for 3 percussion players, is the result of the congruence between 3 factors: 1.two concerts in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in april/94 with different pieces of 4'33'' time duration dedicated to Cage, 2.the composition of "Amarelinha" for orchestra and 3.experiences with rhythmic improvisations on small radios and cassette players in Berlin. From these improvisations I used the punctual possibilities of the volume control and, in spite of the unexpected cancelation of the concerts, I decided to keep the reference to Cage in two aspects: 1.my curiosity to hear parts of "Amarelinha" for orchestra without orchestra, i.e., only the silences and the percussion part with its spacial distribuition as a triangle, and 2.the presence of radios ("Radio Music" from Cage) as a sort of chance generator. Bumbos was commissioned by Trio Franco Brasileiro for the 24ème Festival International de Musique Eletroacustique de Bourges (1994), France. Chico Mello Deutsche Erstaufführung am 2. Dezember 1999 in Köln, Schlagquartett Köln mehr Informationen über Chico Mello: www.timescraper.de oder www.latinoamerica-musica.net |
